Manufacturing Technical Supervisor

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the Manufacturing Technical Supervisor supports Manufacturing Technical Coordinators by providing design assistance, training, and guidance as needed.  This position will review architectural designs and work collaboratively with Architectural Specialties (AS) Metals network engineering teams to develop fabrication, forming, assembly, and installation strategies for custom projects and well as assist in the coordination of timely delivery.  This position reviews the accuracy of CAD drawings verifying that they meet customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities and ensures drawings comply with the approved scope.

What you’ll do

  • Assists Manufacturing Technical Coordinators with shop drawings, trains new and existing coordinators.
  • Troubleshoots and quality checks submittal drawings created by Manufacturing Technical Coordinators prior to the drawings being submitted to the customer/Project Manager to ensure adherence to customer design intent, system limitation requirements, manufacturing capabilities and optimized cost effectiveness.
  • Develops and implements change management with the AS Metals network for manufacturing drawings for plants and works collaboratively with metals network to align strategies and procedures to support production teams.
  • Leverages experience and knowledge of the product line to provide design solutions for internal and external customers.
  • Collaborates with other team members to present viable design alternatives when needed.
  • Collaborates with other team members to rapidly create and evaluate prototype solutions to design problems.
  • Reviews drawings for compliance to approved scope.
  • Reviews drawings for conformance to company standards.
  • Participates in setting standards for existing and new product lines.
  • Communicates with Project Manager to answer questions and clarify information needed.
  • Works with AS Installation Teams when appropriate to review and validate installation strategies.
  • Assists in the facilitation of fabrication of prototypes and first article verification while maintaining smooth production within the plant.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct Supervision of 1-2 Manufacturing Technical Coordinators 

Travel:  Minimal; less than 5%

 

What will make you successful

  • Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks is required, (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products. 
  • Extensive knowledge of the construction of standard and custom products.

Work Environment

  1. Office Environment – This position operates in a professional office environment and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. No PPE is required.
  2. Plant Environment – This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions.  Required PPE includes hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.
