Civil/Structural Engineer

Currently, Orbital Engineering, Inc. is providing Engineering, Risk Mitigation, and Project Delivery Services for a variety of customers in the following industries:

Orbital is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to assist with single and multi-discipline projects in our Pittsburgh, PA and Bensalem, PA Offices. This position requires experience in heavy industrial engineering projects, preferably in the Metals, Midstream Oil & Gas, Refineries & Petrochemical and/or Utilities & Power Generation industries. The nature of the role involves conceptual and detailed engineering design, project estimation, project engineering, project execution, technical support, and customer relationship development.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Field visits to client plants/sites for project scoping and estimation.
  • Field engineering support at client /sites as required
  • Assist with engineering studies, calculations, detailed design documents & specifications, and providing installation support services
  • Perform analytical modeling of structures and components of structures utilizing STAAD Pro software or similar design software
  • Review calculations, drawings, and reports produced by other structural engineers and designers in the office
  • Review steel fabrication and equipment vendor documents for project specification and client/industry standard compliance
  • Steel, concrete, masonry, and foundation design
  • Develop, maintain, and upgrade technical standards/specifications to be used on specific projects, as well as centralized design basis and historical references.
  • Knowledge of Civil / Structural design codes and practices (AISC, ASCE-7, ACI, PIP, API)
  • Complete all tasks in accordance with design and project execution procedures and guidelines as set forth in the corporate Orbital Project Management System.
  • Provide technical support for customers and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource
  • Manage project progress relative to project plan, schedule, and budget
  • Contribute to company improvements in workflow, methods of work execution, and continued standards improvement

Desired skills include but are not limited to:

  • At least 1+ years of civil/structural engineering design-related experience
  • Experience with small and mid-sized capital and maintenance project execution preferred
  • Experience with steel, concrete, masonry, and foundation design
  • Skill and knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Candidates should have a thorough understanding of and aptitude for the use of current computer civil/structural design software (STAAD Pro or equivalent) including general Office products and design & business enterprise software
  • Exposure to the Metals, Midstream Oil & Gas, Refineries & Petrochemical and/or Utilities & Power Generation industries
  • Ability to perform inspections or field assessment
  • Ability to review and interpret civil/structural drawings
  • Ability to design pipe racks, pipe supports, access platforms, pump foundations and vessel foundations
  • Interpersonal and communication skills

  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Reasoning skills and ability to solve practical real world civil/structural problems

 

Education and credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Professional Engineer license
  • Possession of current TWIC card
