Civil Design Engineer
JVA has an opening for a full-time Civil Design Engineer to join our Civil Engineering team in our Glenwood Springs office. We are seeking a highly motivated person with a passion for engineering excellence.
Design Engineers support and collaborate with the design teams on a wide range of site development and infrastructure projects across Colorado. The Design Engineer receives technical guidance from Project Engineers and Project Managers in order to provide engineering excellence. Design Engineers receive supervisory review and approval from the project team with opportunities to participate and influence creative and innovative solutions. Design Engineers are responsible for utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D and civil engineering principles to develop thoughtful, creative, clear and concise designs and plan sets for owners, clients and contractors. The successful Design Engineer demonstrates an eagerness for continued improvement around plan set aesthetics, design, integrity and cohesiveness.
EXAMPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
- Researches design options and develops plan and report details as required by assignment.
- Involvement with Agency reviews. Assists with research into municipal requirements and with comment responses to reviewing jurisdictions.
- Reviews drawings supplied by subcontractors, engineers, and architects and coordinates with civil requirements of the project.
- Participates in “kick-off” and design review meetings, and interacts with clients during meetings as needed and as level of experience progresses.
- Applies knowledge of JVA’s standards to quality control of plan production and can perform CAD drafting.
- Project setup, plan production and annotation using the most current CAD standards and best practices
- Assists with quantity takeoffs and bid tabulations
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Engineering Principles: Competent with engineering elements including site design, grading and drainage, utility design, constructability reviews using creative problem solving for completion of engineering plan sets.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to obtain E.I. License within one year of hire: Have the required combination years of education and engineering experience to be able to obtain a E.I. License in the state of Colorado within one year of hire.
- Software Utilization: Familiarity with preparing construction drawings with Autodesk Civil 3D and MS Office software packages.
- Growth mindset: Able to approach new tasks with a focus on improvement and to continually evolve and develop.
