CTL Engineering (www.ctleng.com) is an award winning, full service consulting engineering firm with (12) locations across OH, IN, WV, and KY with a rich history over our (97) years in business.  We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

 

We are looking for a Material Science or Welding Engineering student interested in performing metallographic sample preparation, testing and materials evaluation.  You may also be trained in other types of testing functions in our mechanical and product testing laboratories.  You’ll get training, hands-on and practical experience while utilizing your expanding knowledge base from your coursework. 

  • This role has a flexible schedule – we will adapt to your schedule and are targeting @10-20 hours per week throughout the school year/ongoing (not just for Summer break). 
  • Our laboratory is located on the west side of Columbus, 7 miles from campus

Position Summary and Responsibilities:

  • This is a paid position, flexible schedule (your choice), and ongoing for the whole year (not just Summer work).
  • You will work closely with our Materials Engineering Team to support ongoing projects, perform failure analysis, and gain hands-on experience in materials science.
  • Support Materials Engineers in preparing metallographic specimens and performing various tests
  • Engage in/help to support lab maintenance activities – i.e. equipment cleaning and calibration, inventory management, and safety protocols.
  • Summarize test results/organize data in report form 
  • Assist other technicians or professional staff on routine tasks.
  • Will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility in work assignments.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Materials Science or Welding Engineering – Sophomore/Junior standing is ideal.
  • Strong academic background in materials science and engineering principles.
  • Hands-on experience with materials testing techniques and laboratory equipment is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
