HPU Construction Technical Service Engineer

This job exists to support the Americas Construction Business to achieve the profitability goals.  Incumbents help the Americas Regional Insulation Team to deploy new technology or products designed for specific insulation applications such as Insulated Metal Panels, PolyIso Boards, Entry Doors, Water Heaters, and Commercial Refrigeration.  Incumbents assist the Business achieve these goals through field trials, customer technical service support, laboratory experimentation, new product/application development and other activities.

 

 

Job Description:

 

Essential responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following: 

 

  • Must treat safety as top priority both in the lab and in the field, ensuring activity follows safe work practices for personal safety, equipment, and other team members, is trained on and complies with all relevant EHS policies and maintains a safe work environment through proactive housekeeping.  Safety must also be demonstrated in the field, which may involve unfamiliar surroundings.
  • Provide Technical Service/Support to customers by building strong relationships with our strategic customer contacts, prompt resolution of problems related to the use of our technology, differentiation of Huntsman Polyurethanes as a supplier to the supported industry, and delivery of business sales and profitability goals. Primarily support customers in both the US and Canada.
  • Document customer visits, technical support and lab development in a timely manner. Protect Intellectual Property by awareness of patents relevant to development programs, compliance with all relevant secrecy agreements, and proactive initiation of invention reports and patent applications.
  • The incumbent must be able to communicate well and professionally. Work very closely with the account managers to ensure consistent approach to the business strategy and plans. Work collaboratively with the Technology and Innovation group to assist with development programs. 
  • The incumbent must be able to remain effective in a dynamic, high energy, team oriented environment; they must have the ability to handle unexpected events or setbacks, changes in work assignments, pressing deadlines, and other stressful events in a professional manner.
  • Significant travel may be required (up to 50%) to perform the duties associated with the position.  Such travel is likely to be within the US and Canada.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of a B.S.  degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science,  Material Science  or a similar applicable field is required.   Advanced technical degree is desirable. Prior polyurethane industry experience, especially in rigid applications, is not required but preferred. An in-depth knowledge of polyurethanes, formulation development, processing, technical service/support,  or related chemistry along with knowledge of the markets and applications is desirable.
  • Additionally, the qualified incumbent will possess effective time management skills, excellent communication skills, leadership abilities, influencing ability and the ability to adapt to change.
