NIH - Nat'l Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) Postbac Position

The Instrumentation Development and Engineering Application Solutions (IDEAS) group in the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has a one-year post-baccalaureate position available for a qualified candidate with a bachelor's or master's degree in biomedical, electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering, as well as computer science.

IDEAS (https://www.nibib.nih.gov/labs-at-nibib/ideas-lab/home) is the central, on-campus, engineering resource within the NIH, with broad range of engineering knowledge and experience establishing a strong infrastructure fostering technology incubators and high-risk high-reward research. Most IDEAS activities require first-of-a-kind instrumentation design, software development (both for instrument control and signal analysis), in-house fabrication, and overall collaborative validation in laboratories and clinics.

 

The candidate will assist in the design and development of advanced biomedical research systems, processing pipelines, and instrumentations used in NIH research projects. The candidates will work ‘hands-on’ in a laboratory involved in a wide range of technologies such as: 3D CAD mechanical design and implementation, rapid electronic and mechanical prototyping and testing; digital signal and video processing (including deep learning methods); digital and analog circuit design; opto-electronics; FPGAs & programmable logic devices; application specific software development; and mobile application development. This exciting position will enable the candidate to immediately apply knowledge gained in the classroom towards important projects in biomedical research.

 

Applicants must be willing to work full-time (40 hours/ week) for a full year.
