Fire Protection Engineer

As a Fire Protection Engineer for Hargrove you will work on multiple projects with various clients throughout California. This individual will support the design and construction of a variety of new and existing industrial, manufacturing, and office facilities projects. Experienced in industrial suppression, detection, fire mains, foam systems and structural fireproofing.  You will be integral to the design and construction activities of multiple critical projects while working with internal and external stakeholders, interfacing with clients, fire protection agencies, and construction engineering teams.

 

  • Coordinate Fire Protection design on multidiscipline project teams
  • Provide fire protection engineering consulting services.
  • Develop building and fire code compliance documents and fire life safety designs for new production lines / materials and other improvement in the facility
  • Perform hazardous material analysis for code compliances purposes, such as chemical classification, chemical quantity analysis, chemical inventory management, and related system design support
  • Develop & create fire protection system design criteria for new production lines / materials and other improvements in the facility
  • Review and comment on shop drawing design packages developed by contractors.
  • Support construction team to develop field solutions
  • Perform system field inspection and testing observations to ascertain installation meets all design intents
  • Develop process improvements / workflows / templates to increase design productivity and quality of deliverables and allocate Fire Protection design resources to meet project demands
  • Provide fire protection consulting engineering services to a variety of potential clients.
  • Provide fire and life safety code consulting for relevant CBC/ICC (IBC, IFC, IMC) codes and NFPA standards.
  • Participate in and lead internal team meetings and external client meetings.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams across multiple offices in a multi-discipline environment.

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required. 

 

Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.

 

Experience: This position requires 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.  

  • Licensed Fire Protection Engineer (CA license required, or able to obtain reciprocity)
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or in similar related field, or equivalent
  • Advance knowledge in NFPA standards and model codes (e.g. ICC codes) related to building fire safety
  • Advance knowledge in hazardous materials evaluation for code compliances
  • Experiences with fire suppression system and fire detection/alarm system designs and inspection
  • Experiences with AutoCAD and Revit
  • Experience in Construction Administration

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
