Research Chemist (Mass Spectrometer)

Duties

As a your typical work assignments may include:
 

  • Developing, planning, validating, and updating methods using analytical and research grade mass spectrometric instrumentation in support of existing and new chemical profiling or signature programs
  • Demonstrating advanced professional knowledge of physical, chemical and instrumental techniques and methods of analysis used in chemical profiling of illicit substances
  • Evaluating and distinguishing groups of mass spectrometric data in support of analytical and profiling methodologies
  • Conceiving, planning and conducting independent and collaborative research using mass spectrometric methods
  • Identifying significant avenues of new investigation and research using mass spectrometry and publishing research results in peer reviewed journals
  • Representing the agency, as an authoritative expert on the topic of mass spectrometry and participating in national and international committees, conferences, and public events
  • Communicating, both orally and in writing, complex technical ideas, positions, recommendations and proposals before management and Federal agency officials
