American Heart Association Summer Internship in Biomedical Engineering
The Oregon Research and InnovatiON Undergraduate Internship Program, hosted at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, creates the future leaders of cardiovascular engineering research. OHSU's Department of Biomedical Engineering educates ORION fellows in basic and translational research focused on the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease.
Funded by the American Heart Association, this summer research program for undergraduates aims to discover new pathways toward safe and effective treatments for cardiovascular disease, including heart attack and stroke.
As a mentoring program, the ORION internship offers training in:
- Experimental premise and design
- Data and quantitative analysis
- Oral and written presentation of results
- Diversity, equity and inclusion in teams
Positions are available in the cardiovascular research laboratories led by Drs. Joe Aslan, Monica Hinds, Owen McCarty, Karina Nakayama, Sandra Rugonyi and Joseph Shatzel.
Who is eligible to apply?
- Undergraduates (rising juniors and seniors)
- Recent graduates
- Students with backgrounds in health sciences, math, physics, or engineering
