City Planner
The City of Portage Department of Community Development is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced City Planner - Project Manager. This position will be responsible for providing technical assistance, review, and implementation of development planning, programs, and policies for the City of Portage. This position will assist in city planning reviews of housing, commercial, industrial and mobility developments and coordinate the development project review process.
The ideal candidate will have relative applied work experience, a passion for serving the community through planning and community development, and be skilled in interpersonal and written communication, as well as group facilitation. They will have comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of urban planning, zoning, housing, and community development. They will incorporate ESRI ArcUrban, ArcHub, ArcPro, Story, Maps and ArcGIS online into urban planning and design workflows. Strong collaboration and team building skills will be necessary for this individual; advanced public presentation skills, written and oral communication skills are imperative.
Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, community planning, real estate development, or a closely related field required with a minimum of three years of experience in professional planning, development projects or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with data acquisition, analysis and visualization for near-term and long-term planning projects is required. Member of American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred.
This position will be required to work occasional evenings as this role will serve as the Historic District Commission liaison and as a back-up liaison to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. Attendance at City Council meetings may also be required.
The City of Portage offers a salary of $57,800 to $78,200, including excellent benefits. Salary offered will be dependent on qualifications and relative experience.
