Food Applications Intern

Summer Intern:  Food Applications

Corbion is looking for a Food Applications summer intern who is currently or recently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in the ingredient solutions industry supporting internal projects for use in various product segments. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them to a professional setting. Interns will gain a better understanding of the role that a student/entry level team member can play in a corporate setting, and be better prepared to work in the arena of ingredient solutions.  Interns will have the opportunities to network, define, and build relationships within our business operations, sales, and research & development departments, acting as a great teammate to meet internal deadlines and expectations. Our organization is focused on delivering solutions that bring value for our customers and have decades of experience in the ingredient solutions industry.

 

Responsibilities:       

  • Managing work projects, working both independently and collaboratively with others, to meet project timelines and deliverables
  • Conducting literature searches, assimilate information and to apply to benchtop trials to advance projects
  • Working with team members to design, conduct and analyze trials and experimental data
  • Maintaining a clean, safe work environment; following established guidelines for good housekeeping, GMPs, and safety
  • Working with our team members and other internal colleagues to meet target objectives
  • Presenting new ingredients post-processing, project status, updates and outcomes to team and key partners
  • Identify areas that can be improved and constructively propose new solutions that increase value and improve business performance; as well as explore multiple possibilities for tackling challenges, think out of the box to determine the best solution.
  • Conduct business analysis drawing from needs in the industry to understand and support new business opportunities for Corbion
  • Challenge the status quo and promote ambitious thinking in order to add new value
  • Integrate data sets from multiple sources and utilize tools to support department initiatives and projects
  • Participate in Lunch & Learns, and internship training programs
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by department staff

Skills, Qualifications, and Education Requirements:

  • Progress towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Engineering, or Business
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Interest in hands-on food product or food ingredient development using laboratory and pilot plant equipment/processes
  • Familiarity with experimental design, statistical data analysis and interpretation of results
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written technical communication skills, e. g. making presentations and writing technical reports
  • Ability to think and work independently while collaborating with others in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver against agreed deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good organization skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail
