The US Army Corps of Engineers, New York District is hiring a Civil Engineering Technician in Jersey City, NJ. This is a great opportunity for recent graduate and entry-level engineering professionals!

The salary range for this role is $44,057 to $86,780 at the GS 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 levels. This means that you may qualify at either of these levels with varying salary within the range provided. Some travel required, up to 20%. Hybrid work potential.

Duties
  • Provide on-site inspection of a variety of projects relating to surveying and dredging.
  • Prepare estimates of costs for various proposed hydrographic, topographic, property and aerial surveys which serve as a basis for awarding a variety of competitive and/or negotiated contracts.
  • Provide on-site guidance for single or multiple survey crews performing a variety of type of surveys.
  • Serve as technical expert in beach monitoring.
  • Assure contractor compliance to sound engineering and surveying principles.

  2. Positions will be filled under the Department of Defense Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce.
  3. Position may be filled at the GS-5, GS-6, GS-7, GS-8 or GS-9.

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience (GS-05): One year of specialized experience which includes1) assist higher-graded technicians by preparing graphs, charts, diagrams, and visual presentations; and 2) performs basic mathematics using standard formulas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience (GS-06): One year of specialized experience which includes 1) support higher-graded technicians with computer-aided drafting for repair, maintenance and/or construction project bid documents; 2) assist in preparing as-built drawings for engineering contracts; 3) uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create maps for engineering projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Engineering or Industrial Technology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience (GS-07): One year of specialized experience which includes 1) support higher-graded technicians with computer-aided drafting for repair, maintenance and/or construction project bid documents; 2) assist in preparing plans, specifications and as-built drawings for engineering contracts; 3) uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create maps for engineering projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Engineering or Industrial Technology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience (GS-08): One year of specialized experience which includes 1) performs computer-aided drafting for repair, maintenance and/or construction project bid documents; 2) prepares plans, specifications and as-built drawings for engineering contracts; and 3) uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create maps and plan information for engineering projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Engineering or Industrial Technology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience (GS-09): One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performs computer-aided drafting for repair, maintenance and/or construction project bid documents; 2) Prepares plans, specifications and as-built drawings for engineering contracts; 3) Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create maps and plan information for engineering projects; and 4) Provides technical design and drawing production assistance to architects and engineers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
OR
Education: Masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. with a major course of study in physical science, mathematics, architecture, and electrical or mechanical systems, or other fields related to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.


FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
