about our internship program:
The fairlife Summer Internship Program is designed to welcome interns across our locations to gain meaningful experience and social and professional development opportunities. For 10 weeks, interns will work in one of our three locations: Chicago, IL, Coopersville, MI, or Goodyear, AZ. fairlife’s paid internship program also offers a summer full of social, professional, and community engagement events including exposure to our senior leadership and executives across the business in small group settings, insight into company initiatives, off-site field trips, and for those qualified and selected, an opportunity to pursue a full-time job opportunity.

The fairlife 2023 Summer Internship Program will take place from 6/5 through 8/11 at one of the fairlife locations: Chicago, IL, Coopersville, MI, or Goodyear, AZ.

job purpose: The Engineering Intern will be part of the Goodyear engineering and maintenance team within fairlife, LLC. reporting to either the Engineering and Reliability Manager or the Maintenance Manager, assignment will depend upon business need. The goal of this role is to assist with various aspects of departmental operations and to provide real-world engineering experience in a innovative CPG manufacturing environment.

skills/qualifications required:
  • Must be currently enrolled in a four-year undergraduate engineering degree program, entering the fall semester as a junior or senior
  • Preferred focus on Engineering or other applicable degrees
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0, or higher
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment

project overview and guidelines:
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and maintenance staff and team members, OEM technicians and operating department personnel
  • Assist site engineering team members with and/or directly perform project management responsibilities using the PMO365 capital management program
  • Assist with troubleshooting chronic operational issues, performing root cause analysis, making recommendations on process improvements, and developing sustainable solutions to maximize productivity and quality
  • Assist in the optimization of the D365 computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts inventory, equipment maintenance history and total cost of ownership
  • Maintains equipment documentation, facility schematics and P&ID drawings
  • Document improvements, share knowledge and demonstrate leadership skills by teaching technicians and operators as needed
  • Participates in plant safety, health, and environmental programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

learning objectives:
  • Real-world engineering experience in an innovative, fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Expected to provide presentation summarizing experience at the end of the assignment

working conditions and physical requirements:
  • 8-12 hours sitting/standing/walking
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

food safety requirements:
  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.

schedule:  On-Site, Monday-Friday with a set full-time schedule
