Product Development Scientist/Engineer - Data Science & Systems Integrations - Minneapolis, MN

JOB OVERVIEW
 
This role will be supporting our Cereal and Snacks businesses strengthen their leadership in food. This will be done by providing solutions that change the way we make the food the world loves and develop next generation innovation.
 
We are seeking a techno-savvy and intellectually curious food scientist or chemical engineer with strong data science and computer sciences skills who is eager to apply modern data-driven methodologies to solve complex and challenging food problems. You will work with engineers and scientists to design, develop, and optimize our current and next-generation food processes and products to make food the world loves!
 
This role is within our ITQ Innovation, Technology & Quality R&D Organization which has the mission to deliver impactful technical innovations by solving challenging technical problems using state-of-the-art tools. We lead the industry by building solutions that matter to our consumers, enabling innovations, development efficiencies, and production of great-tasting healthy foods.
 
What will you be doing?
We are looking for a recent graduate with a strong academic background who can analyze real-world situations using data-centric and digital tools. Applying multiple lenses to solve problems will be important from first principle approached to complex data analyses. These projects may be done independently or with a broader team. The basic job accountabilities could include:
  1. Apply basic food science and/or chemical engineering principles to understand the root cause of problems and provide unique solutions to drive value.
  2. Apply data science tools to analyze and develop a hypothesis to solve complex problems that will improve efficiency, deliver innovation and drive product quality.
  3. Design and execute experiments.
  4. Apply or build modern data-driven methodologies and tools (vision systems, data science techniques, AI, etc.) – experience in visual basic, python or other basic programming is strongly recommended
  5. Develop and test the hypothesis to advance technical possibilities and deliver large business impact.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or related competitive engineering field, Food Science or Masters in Food Science or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience or interest in programming, data analysis, and modeling
  • A learning mindset with curiosity & inventiveness
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams, collaborate with others to deliver results
  • Ability to focus on details, apply a methodical approach to tackle technical challenges
  • Willingness to travel (10%)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Deep data and analytics skills (double major or minoring in computer science, modeling, and programming experience)
  • Comfort with Python, C++ or other computer langugages strongly preferred
  • Industrial internship experience
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outstanding results
  • Demonstrated skills in managing numerous projects concurrently and adaptability to fast-growing/constantly changing business needs
  • Demonstrated effective communication, leadership, and influencing skills
  • Ability to design and execute experiments to understand and solve technical problems, strong technical background
  • Innovative thinker, willing to challenge established methods and beliefs
ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
This role is located in Minneapolis, MN and General Mills will provide relocation assistance to the selected candidate, if they meet all requirements for assistance. This role will not consider remote candidates as this is a hybrid role. We cannot at this time provide sponsorship for individuals needing sponsorship and cannot support international relocations.
