Controls/Automation Engineer - Entry Level - Fort Worth, TX

Our MEPC consulting firm is hiring entry-level controls/automation engineers for design and analysis projects in commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.

New hires enter an in-house training and mentoring program called the “Engineer Development Program” (EDP). The EDP program structure covers technical skills and aspects of the consulting business.

Qualifications:
• BS or MS mechanical, aerospace, chemical, or electrical engineering degree required
• 3.3 GPA or greater preferred
• Controls/automation experience through co-ops/internships required
• PLC control panel design experience preferred
• Instrumentation selection and wiring diagram creation experience preferred
• SCADA system design experience preferred (FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, Ignition)
• Excellent critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and research design/field issues with available resources
• Curiosity to learn and grow
• Successful completion of the FE exam preferred but not required at time of hire 

Responsibilities:
Candidates work with lead engineers/design specialists as part of project-specific teams. Team size varies depending on project size and complexity. Candidates will be trained to plan and complete facets of the design process including:
• Visit the field to determine existing conditions and meet with contractors
• Meet with clients to determine project scope, background data, equipment preferences
• Determine the best methods to solve customer's problems or needs
• Perform concept development, design, and analysis for projects including:
  • Controls platform selection
  • Controls wiring diagrams, plan drawings, panel elevations, and elementary diagrams
  • Write programs for PLC and HMI based on an internally generated sequence of operations and functional requirement specifications
  • Create failure mode matrices for projects
• Perform startup and commissioning for projects including:
  • I/O checkout
  • Program loading and checkout
  • Perform function checks of program, failure modes, alarming, and safety relaying
  • Troubleshooting
  • Operator and Engineering training
• Understanding of mechanical/electrical codes and construction methods
• Institute quality control procedures to ensure correct and accurate deliverables
• Perform construction administration, including answering contractor questions and field visits to review construction status

Reports To:
This role will report to a Controls Department Head for training, career development, and schedule management. Secondarily, this role reports to project managers based on active projects and workload.
