Controls/Automation Engineer Co-op Fall 2023 - Cincinnati, OH

Our MEPC consulting firm is hiring controls/automation engineering summer co-ops for design and analysis projects in industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities.
 
Co-ops enter an in-house training and mentoring program called the “Engineer Development Program” (EDP). The EDP program structure covers technical skills and aspects of the consulting business.

Qualifications:
  • Completed first two years toward a degree
  • Completed at least 2 co-op rotations working in industrial control systems or integration
  • Experience in industrial controls drawings and diagrams (AutoCAD or equal) and writing programming for PLC/HMI preferred (Rockwell, Ignition, Wonderware, Siemens)
  • Possess strong computer skills
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and research design issues with available resources
  • Curiosity to learn and grow

Responsibilities:
Co-ops will work with project engineers or designers as part of project specific teams. Team size varies depending on project size and complexity. Co-ops learn and conduct facets of the design process including:
  • Assist project engineers with specific design tasks
  • Assist in concept development, design, and analysis for projects
  • Develop panel drawing sets
  • Develop PLC and HMI/SCADA code and graphics for systems and operator interfacing, trending, and dashboarding
  • Visit project sites to determine existing conditions and perform field related engineering services
  • Make preliminary equipment selections using manufacturers' information
  • Make preliminary instrumentation selections using manufacturers’ information and generation of data sheets
  • Prepare designs and details using 2D and 3D AutoCAD/Revit
  • Review technical specifications
  • Learn applicable electrical codes and construction methods/administration
  • Research and learn quality control procedures
  • Attend project meetings

Supervision:
Co-ops report to a Controls Department Head for training, feedback, evaluation, and schedule management.
