Product Metallurgy Intern

Hi, I’m Alexis Weisser, looking for a Summer 2023 Product Metallurgy Intern.
 
Who Am I?
I am interested in developing, processing, and testing different materials to create a wide range of products. I enjoy having new challenges each day and mentoring the next generation of metallurgists.

What Do We Do?
Business Unit: Product Metallurgy – Forged Bar and Billet
We make metal forge bar and billet products to meet the needs of customers in several different industries including energy and aerospace.
 
Ongoing Projects
·       Evaluation and problem solving of test failures.
·       Development of process or product improvements.
 
Your Role as an Intern
You will be a part of a dynamic team, supporting the following tasks:
·       Investigate requirements and defects seen through routine testing, specifically macro evaluations and non-destructive testing.
·       Review quality rejections and evaluate root cause, corrective actions, and remedial actions for the product.
·       Complete project work to characterize and evaluate improvements for outstanding metallurgical issues.

What Do We Require?
You must be:
·       Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
·       Knowledgeable of materials and/or metals.
·       Able to use Microsoft tools.
·       Willing and able to work on-site at our Reading, PA location.
·       US Citizen or US Green Card Holder.
 
Pay Range
Hourly rates are based on: 1 – Program of study; 2 – Degree type (i.e., Bachelor’s, Master’s); 3 – Progression in degree (i.e., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.). Interns enrolled in an Engineering-related bachelor’s degree program will be paid $19-$23 per hour.
 
Commuting/Housing Assistance (If Eligible)
Interns who must commute to work from outside the immediate Reading, PA area (over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $2,400 (less applicable taxes) as excessive commute allowance. Interns who choose to temporarily relocate from outside the immediate Reading, PA area (moving over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $4,800 (less applicable taxes) as a housing allowance. If applicable, this payment would be made during the first payroll cycle, which would be three or four weeks following the internship start date.
