Status: Open

Position Summary

Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is a global technical enterprise, leading the discovery, development, and integration of affordable warfighting technologies for our air, space, and cyberspace force. AFRL is a workforce of more than 10,000 across nine technical directorates and 40 other operations across the globe and provides a diverse portfolio of science and technology that range from fundamentally to advanced research and technology development. We are looking for a qualified candidate to support on-base research efforts in support of the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate. At the broadest level our research group plans, directs and conducts in house and extramural research and development of materials technologies with an emphasis on functional applications. This position is for a research scientist to work in the field of liquid crystalline components. These components hold promise for future Department of the Air Force applications in sensing for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) as well as integrated photonic quantum information systems (QIS). The candidate will lead the synthesis, processing, and characterization of solutions, films, and devices comprising members of this material family. The candidate will collaborate with a cross-disciplined team of government, civilian, contractor, and industrial personnel. The team will consist of scientist in a variety of disciplines to determine the most valuable research directions and ways to improve the efficiency of technologies for our warfighters.
