Costuming Material Engineer Internship, Disney Live Entertainment, Spring 2023

The Costuming Materials Engineer Intern supports research and testing of materials for costumes which are utilized throughout Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. This work includes participating in product design of costume components and providing expertise in comparing attributes of both traditional materials (composites, plastics, etc.) and new materials (foams, etc.). Research new materials for product improvement, assist with testing of materials, summarize test results, and prepare material performance specifications. Participate in material selections during development process and work with manufacturing teams to implement new materials and process changes.

What you bring to this role…
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of composites, plastics, foams and similar materials.
  • Proven familiarity with techniques for reformulation, molding, lay-up, and shaping.
  • Proven familiarity with human factors engineering and ergonomics.
  • Proven knowledge of alternative finishes and textiles.
  • Willingness to learn and work with many different methods of construction that are unique to Creative Costuming.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong partnering skills.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule.

Preferred Education:
  • Senior Level Undergraduate or Graduate program students preferred.
  • Currently earning a college/university degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

Internship Eligibility:
  • At the time of application, must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter prior to participation in the internship program OR have graduated from college within the past six months OR be currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization.
  • Must provide full work availability.
  • Must provide own transportation to and from work.
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines, for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months.

Program Length:
The approximate dates of this internship are January 2023 through June 2023. Candidates must be fully available to work full time any time including days, nights, weekends, and holidays for the duration of the internship.

Housing:
A limited amount of company-sponsored housing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis for Florida Based Professional Interns through American Campus Communities.


Flex Type:

On-Site - This role is considered on-site, which means the employee will work from a Company designated location on an ongoing basis.
