Engineer I - Functional Test Design

The Engineer I - Functional Test Design leads the specification, design, commissioning, troubleshooting, upgrading, and maintenance of equipment used to test, verify, and record the functional capabilities of Vermeer equipment during and after production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Exhibit the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors.
2. Work with key stakeholders to identify machine functions and capabilities to be tested or verified; determine the best way to verify and capture machine capabilities; develop processes to maintain and enhance test capabilities.
3. Train operators, engineers, and others on test principles, test methodology, and test analysis.
4. Document and establish best practices and standard work for in-process testing, end of line testing, and sub-assembly testing.
5. Improve and supplement existing test functionality through an agile, continuous delivery/continuous improvement process.
6. Work within the production environment to understand how Vermeer equipment is assembled to develop tests that verify machine capabilities both during and after assembly.

Education and/or Experience
- 4-year college degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Computer, Hydraulic, Agricultural, Aerospace or Systems engineering.
- Or other 2 or 4-year college degree with a minimum of 4 years related experience.
- Experience with Access, Excel, SolidWorks, and programming a plus.

Other Skills and Abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate between projects to meet established deadlines in conjunction with but not limited to Manufacturing, Quality, New Product Engineering, Tooling, Welding, and Facilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced and rapidly changing work environment.
- Ability to provide informative and professional assistance to project stakeholders, test users, and data consumers.
- Knowledge of assembly and troubleshooting processes, just in time manufacturing, and statistical process variation.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic drawings.
- Ability to understand on machine communication systems (CAN, J1939, and ISO Bus).
- Ability to understand embedded systems, Human-Machine interface, and machine actuation.

Travel
Up to 15% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.

Work Location
ONSITE: A team member’s day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.
