Process Engineer/Chemical Engineer

Job Summary: The Process Engineer supervises and coordinates the activities of personnel in the manufacture of raw materials and finished goods at the St. Louis plant. Also responsible for keeping equipment operating efficiently in order to meet department goals and standards. Participates in meeting all operational goals for safety, quality, customer service, and cost control.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
·      Provides technical support for process safety systems.
·      Work in a self-directed work environment assisting department personnel in the execution of their duties in conjunction with their qualifications and skills. 
·      Conduct problem analysis and planning for improving core production processes across all shifts in critical measures (OEE, reliability, quality, cost).
·      Meet customer requirements in terms of quality, delivery and costs.
·      Provides technical support for process safety systems.
·      Participate in development and implementation of major initiatives (capital projects, formula changes, packaging changes, etc.)
·      Manage and review for improvement the raw material usage systems including correcting and explaining discrepancies.
·      Assist in technician training (training material development, delivery, and team member qualification).
·      Provide feedback in the technical growth /development of team members.
·      Collaborate with Sulfonation staff to improve key success areas such as safety, environmental, quality, unit costs and personnel contributions.
·      Investigate and recommend new technologies.
·      Participate in production planning to ensure high levels of customer service, inventory control and planned maintenance downtime.
·      Lead continuous improvement efforts for sulfonation.
·      Review production reports submitted by subordinates. Ensure that subordinates have proper training and knowledge to complete reports accurately.
·      Investigate accidents to determine cause, and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.  
 
Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years production/preventative engineering experience or the equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment.

Education:
  • BS/BA degree with preference for Chemical Engineering or related field with work experience that demonstrates technical skills, job knowledge, and personal characteristics listed in this position description.
  • Basic knowledge of Chemistry.
  • Experience in Sulfonation chemistry a plus
