Personal Care Applications Lab Assistant

Position Summary:
To support our application team, we are looking for Part-time Lab Assistant who will work under the general supervision of a scientist to conduct routine laboratory procedures and activities according to established guidelines.

Job Description:
Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Laboratory scale product scale up and perform stability
  • Conduct routine laboratory procedures with general supervision directed at the evaluation of materials and products targeted for use in various end markets and applications in Personal Care
  • Using standard test methods and laboratory equipment, this would involve the characterization of raw materials, the formulation and processing of a range of different kinds of products, and the assessment of product performance and stability relative to key benchmarks
  • Conduct all necessary calculations and record experimental data and observations in an electronic laboratory notebook
  • Preparing tables, charts, graphs, and written summaries of experimental results
  • Always maintain a safe and orderly laboratory work environment and contribute to the efficient running of the lab

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, crouch, twist, turn, lift. and move about the facility. Walking, walking on irregular surfaces, and balancing will be required. Reaching, feeling, finger movement, grasping, hearing, sight and the ability to speak clearly will be required. Regularly, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. The ability to wear personal protective equipment; ability to pass a fit-test and wear a respirator is required for most positions. The environment for this position is a laboratory setting. Candidates should be able to adapt to a traditional business environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Additional Details:
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering
  • Some previous hands-on practical chemistry laboratory experience related to consumer product development or evaluation
  • Adaptability with an ability to quickly learn new experimental methods and procedures
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining careful attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Working knowledge of standard PC applications
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English Desired

Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering
  • Pursuing a higher-level degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering

Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:
  • Experience in laboratory methods related to the formulation and evaluation of personal care or coatings products
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety requirements
  • Self-motivated individual with a high level of commitment and technical curiosity

The ideal candidate would be available to work up to 30 hours per week during our core hours (M-F, 9:00 AM 5:00 PM).
