Manufacturing Engineer - Welding

The Welding Engineer is charged with the responsibility to identify, evaluate, develop and implement methods of manufacturing related to all robotic welding cells, MIG and TIG welding, off line programming and weld fixture design in such a manner that will leverage the full range of equipment and process capabilities. The goal of these activities is to improve productivity, quality, safety, on time delivery performance and operational knowledge of the equipment.  
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Welding Engineer is to apply in-depth knowledge Robotic Welding Cells, MIG and TIG welding processes, fixture design and work center lay outs that will take full advantage of the capabilities of the equipment with the intent to surpass our current status as a leader in the metal fabrication industry. The Welding Engineer will research, develop and maintain a library of strategically relevant technologies that will advance our welding capabilities, while collaborating with manufacturing engineers to continually enhance the collective knowledge base of the company. The Welding Engineer seeks to optimize throughput and first pass yield by providing operators with clear, elegant process instructions for all welding processes.
Additional responsibilities include:    
  • Developing weld processes and procedures to support new product introduction and improve existing welded assemblies
  • Collaborating with Sales Engineering Technologists to provide customers optimized solutions and competitive quotes
  • Reviewing assemblies not obtaining production standards with weld supervisors and developing plans for improvement
  • Enhancing customer drawings for clarity as needed
  • Implementing off-line programming for all welding operations wherever possible
  • Maintaining off- line programming software
  • Developing preventative maintenance schedule for all new equipment
Qualifications and Competencies
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to produce coherent written documents that are free of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors, possess a reasonably optimistic and supportive attitude, and maintain the strictest confidence regarding all issues and information regarding the company’s operations, its employee, financial matters, and personal matters of which the employee may become aware in the course of their work.
The individual will also maintain competency with the following programs and equipment:
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Office equipment; Computer, Phone, Fax, Scanner, Copier, Camera
  • Solid Works and other software tools related to fixture design
  • Off line programming software
  • Reading and interpreting blueprint specifications
  • Ability to read, writes, interpret and verbally communicate technical instructions
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Certified Weld Inspector - Preferred
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the metal fabrication industry, directly related to the support, operation, maintenance, and selection of welding equipment.
