Job Description 
 
The Lubrizol Corporation is looking for highly motivated sophomores for our Biomedical Engineering Co-op Program to start in our program in the Spring or Summer 2023 semesters.

Lubrizol’s co-op programs have been around for over five decades. Many of our senior leaders began their own careers as Lubrizol co-ops; this list includes former Lubrizol Presidents and CEOs. Each Lubrizol Biomedical Engineering Co-op is regarded as a potential future leader. 
 
What will you do in the Biomedical Engineering Co-op Rotations? 
Students are recruited, interviewed, and selected to join the Biomedical Engineering Co-op Program. Hired co-ops are then placed into our rotational program where assignments will range from process development, manufacturing support, and regulatory compliance. Each assignment offers a unique location and set of responsibilities. The following provides a brief description of some of the available work terms: 
 
Research and Development (Brecksville) 
This assignment will provide you with a basic understanding of the chemistry and processing of our Life Science Medical Polymers product lines. You will assist with R&D projects for new product development, applications testing and development, and more. This term is intended to give you a strong foundation in lab work, experiment design and data analysis, and technical communication. You will learn how to translate product chemistry into processing and application performance for our customers and develop a strong understanding of Lubrizol’s innovation pipeline for Lubrizol Life Sciences. 
 
Production (Corona, Franklin, Victor, Wilmington) 
While working in Production, you will assist the area engineers to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of one of our many production facilities. You will also work on a wide variety of process improvement projects including process optimization, safety improvements, new equipment start-up, and energy monitoring and improvements that will help the company by increasing capacity, improving processing, and reducing operating costs. You may also get involved in the capital project process which may include: equipment or control system design, project estimation, installation, and start-up. This assignment will expose you to a wide variety of projects that will develop your troubleshooting and problem-solving skills while applying the knowledge you have learned in the classroom. This term can take place at several of our production facilities throughout the United States, with opportunities opening at new plants all the time. 
 
Process Development (Brecksville) 
Our Process Development group is responsible for developing and scaling up new products and assisting the plants in optimizing the quality and processing of existing products. In this term, you will be asked to design lab and pilot scale experiments, implement equipment changes, develop and evaluate analytical tests, collect and analyze data, and then make recommendations based on your results. In this assignment you will be challenged to expand on your classroom studies and to think outside of the box to help expand Lubrizol’s technology base as we develop new and innovative products.

In fact, more than 70% of co-ops come to Lubrizol after graduation. Two of our most well-known former co-ops include former Lubrizol President's and CEO's. 
 
Who are we looking for? 
  • Students who are interested in working in a chemical manufacturing environment. 
  • Students currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from an accredited university, with a graduation date up to 2026. 
  • Ability to complete three or more co-op work terms (preferred) 
  • Students with GPA > 3.0 will be given priority consideration.  
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
