Mechanical Engineering Intern - Summer 2022

JOB SUMMARY:
As an Intern for our Mobile Welding Division you will work alongside our Engineering teams to design and implement elegant solutions to complex and interesting problems. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop rail weld product improvements via weld program, equipment, process, procedure and training improvements.
  • Design, build and execute test plans and then analyze and report findings to internal teams.
·       Develop technical expertise in metallurgical aspects of rail welds, weld technology, Non-Destructive Testing methods including ultrasonic testing
  • Generate innovative ideas for new track repair products and services
  • Create technical reports based on customer needs to convey findings
·       Performs all other duties as assigned.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift to 75 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willingness to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toed boots) as needed.
  • Ability to crouch, bend, stoop, hand/finger dexterity.
·       Vision must be sufficient for imputing data into a computer.
·       Keyboarding skills that reduce the risk of carpal tunnel and other office related injuries.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Office/cubicle environment and laboratory environment
  • Lab environment
  • Shop environment including assembly, welding, overhead cranes and fork trucks.
  • Possible field work on the railroad and/or TTCI track.
  • Work in all weather conditions if needed for project.

QUALIFICATIONS:
·       Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED
·       Pursuing a BS/MS in Engineering, Math, Physics, or related field
·       Ability to maintain confidentiality with dealing with personal and protected information.
·       Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
·       Ability to multi task and prioritize your work flow.
·       Passion for innovation and building systems from the ground up
·       Self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently
·       Intermediate MS Office skills including Excel, Word and Power Point.
·       Efficient at communicating both written and verbal.
·       Must be willing to take and pass all mandatory pre-employment testing.
·       Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license along with an e-Rail Safe badge and meet the Holland Vehicle Fleet Policy.
