Mechanical Engineer--HVAC
- Prepare design studies, assessments, contract drawings, analyses, design documentation reports, design calculations, technical specifications, and labor and material estimates for large and complex mechanical engineering projects and equipment.
- Responsible for systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR); plumbing; fire suppression; utilities; industrial ventilation; controls; and other building systems.
- Review mechanical engineering designs prepared by others including architect-engineer firms or other USACE Districts/Centers for the above and similar type systems and facilities.
- Coordinate the design of mechanical systems with features designed by other discipline engineers to ensure all systems interact appropriately.
- Review mechanical portions of contractor/manufacturer shop drawings and equipment submittals to evaluate the adequacy and practicability of the equipment or system design in conformance with contract requirements.
- Make field trips to construction or manufacturing sites to perform inspections and witness testing to determine contract compliance and quality.
- Draft replies to architect-engineer firms, other Districts/Centers, or contractors/manufacturers regarding the mechanical portions to set forth the basis for exceptions taken and revisions required in proposed mechanical systems.
- Evaluate condition of existing mechanical systems and makes recommendations for correction or improvement.
- Provide technical support and guidance to lower grade engineers.
