Biomedical Engineer Intern

NorthStar develops, manufactures, and distributes radioisotopes used daily for patients needing medically important diagnostic imaging tests. Using novel and advanced technologies, NorthStar will scale-up production over the coming months and years and intends to become the industry’s market leader. 

The Engineering Internship in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, and Chemical disciplines are to help/support implementation of complex electromechanical instruments, devices, production equipment and support business critical projects throughout the duration of the internship.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned:


1.    Support developing engineering solutions with a high level of detail in response to development, hardware, manufacturing, and operational needs.
2.    Support the development of requirements and specifications.
3.    Participate in the design of hardware/software/processes to meet specifications.
4.    Comprehensively document designs, trials, and other work in engineering logbooks, update drawings, specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOM’s) through Change Orders.
5.    Present drawings and project progress to peers and management.
6.    Participate in process hazard/risk management reviews and modify equipment/designs as necessary to ensure safe operation and appropriate specifications are captured.
7.    Execute verification testing to ensure product/equipment/processes meet all requirements and specifications.
8.    Execute validation testing to ensure end product/equipment/processes meet user needs.
9.    Work with a variety of vendors to provide parts and services in fulfillment of development goals.
10. Effectively communicate safety and quality issues raised by customers or staff in a timely fashion.
11. Support NorthStar’s Quality System and Safety and Health Program by following procedures and mentoring others.
 
Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering. Previous experience/internships in medical devices or pharmaceutical industry preferred. 
 
COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
