General Job Description
 
MPR has a wide and growing client base in the fields of power and energy, federal services, and health and life sciences. We work throughout the United States as well as internationally. We seek highly qualified, degreed engineers from a variety of technical disciplines including:
 
  • Mechanical
  • Chemical
  • Nuclear
  • Materials Science
  • Instrumentation & Control
  • Civil/Civil Structural
 
Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, we also have offices in East Lyme, Connecticut and Chelmsford, Massachusetts.
 
Typical projects at MPR last from 2-12 months and are completed by project teams of 2-10 engineers. At any one point in time, a typical MPR engineer is engaged in 2-3 projects simultaneously, which provides for a diverse and fulfilling work experience. Example projects include:
 
  • Investigating and identifying the root cause of a system or component failure
  • Providing an analysis and/or a specification for a system, component, or entire facility
  • Specifying, procuring and testing a system or component
  • Designing and supplying a large, complex, first-of-a-kind system
  • Designing a new medical device
  • Conducting a test in the field or at a laboratory
  • Developing and implementing an asset management plan for an entire class of equipment
 
MPR regularly provides training opportunities – many of which occur on-the-job with senior engineers who are recognized industry-wide as experts in their fields. Some of MPR’s most interesting projects provide the opportunity to travel to client sites, test facilities or supplier’s facilities. Although employees are based out of one of our several offices, they should expect a moderate amount of travel based on the specific requirements of their projects. Expected career progression includes developing technical expertise as well as increasing responsibility for project management, supervision, client relations, and business development.
 
Qualifications
 
The ideal candidate is an engineer with a strong working knowledge of engineering first principles who is a proficient writer and communicator, and has the ability to work both independently and with others. The candidate should also have interest in working at client or other sites as projects require. The candidate should be able to communicate and work closely with senior engineers and clients to solve problems. 

Successful candidates will possess a strong academic record and be highly motivated self-starters. In addition, successful candidates will have the following skills and capabilities:
 
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to problem solve
  • Aptitude to work outside of engineering discipline and quickly learn new concepts
  • Advanced computer skills preferred, including analysis programs such as MATLAB-Simulink® and design programs such as SolidWorks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of an organization
  • Persistent, questioning attitude and ability to accept that in others
  • Follow through with all tasks and assignments in a timely manner
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong desire to grow as a professional
