Sustainability Engineer

Are you an engineer ready to help our sustainability mission?

As a Sustainability Engineer at Sensient, you will play a critical role in the execution of the Company’s Sustainability goals for our Flavors & Extracts Group. This will include supporting the implementation of the Group’s operational sustainability strategy and initiatives. This position will serve as an environmental subject matter expert (SME) and be responsible for technical data collection, analysis, and application, in addition to communicating these metrics to external customers and investors. This role will also provide engineering support to business functions as they integrate sustainability into their core activities, such as energy and carbon footprint optimization, water efficiency improvements, and waste reductions. In this role, you will:
  • Help assess the existing environmental impact of our production facilities and work with our plant engineers to identify water reduction, energy saving, and renewable energy projects.
  • Prepare business cases for key sustainability initiatives and capital expenditures.
  • Support the development, engineering, implementation, and monitoring of capital projects to help the Group meet its sustainability goals.
  • Develop, implement, and manage plans/programs related to landfill-free efforts.
  • Monitor the progress of environmental improvement programs.
  • Track and report on progress against the Group’s sustainability targets using the SASB and TCFD standards.
  • Develop and execute internal and external communications on the Group’s sustainability efforts.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of related professional experience
  • You have applied project experience
  • You are passionate about sustainability
  • You are a people person with the ability to influence the plant team to bring desired change by coaching and data sharing
  • You have the ability to work in a partially matrix structure
  • You have the ability to analyze data, recognize business impacts, communicate trends, and execute an engineering change management plan
  • You have the ability to communicate complex analysis and ideas in a concise manner, both written and verbally, including to a global audience
  • You are an analytical self-starter with strong attention to detail
  • You have strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work on complex projects
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office products, with advanced skills in MS Excel
  • You are an intellectually curious person who has persistence and asks “Why” questions to gain understanding beneath the surface level
  • ***This position is office-based in Hoffman Estates, IL (Flavors & Extracts) with travel to Sensient locations worldwide as needs require (minimum 25%).  
  • ***This position reports to the Group Director Operations & Engineering and provides direct support to the Corporate Sustainability Analyst.
