A Chemist 1 will conduct general chemical analyses in a timely and scientifically sound manner with primary focus on basic chemical analyses such as titrations, gravimetric analyses, etc. on incoming food, pharmaceutical and/or other types of samples.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use and maintain necessary equipment in the laboratory
  • Mathematical and chemical knowledge to perform calculations
  • Knowledge of appropriate analytical techniques
  • Ability to follow instructions and understand methodology employed in the area
  • Ability to keep accurate, legible, complete records following good documentation practices
  • Good written communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to get along with others within Chemistry lab and throughout entire company
  • Recognize errors and omissions quickly and bring them to the attention of a supervisor in a timely manner
  • Plan for reagent, glassware, equipment, supply requirements and complete appropriate requisitions
  • Organization of daily work schedule to utilize time efficiently
  • Recognize any malfunctions in equipment and report to the attention of a supervisor
  • Recognize unsafe laboratory situations and bring to attention of supervisor.

Any combination of education, training and experience that has led to the acquisition of the knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated above. Typical ways of acquiring these knowledge, skills and abilities are:
  • Completion of four years of college, resulting in graduation or its equivalent with major work in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely related field
  • Completion of 2 years of college, resulting in graduation or its equivalent with major work in Laboratory Science and one year of laboratory experience
