Postdoctoral Researcher, Materials

USRA, in support of the Glenn Engineering and Research Support (GEARS) contract, is currently seeking a One Year Senior Postdoctoral Researcher to support the Ceramic and Polymer Composites Branch at NASA Glenn Research Center to provide guidance and assist in the additive manufacturing of aerospace materials such as ceramics and advanced engineered composites that are lightweight, mechanically robust and high-temperature capable and of next generation high power and energy densities energy storage materials. Moreover, the researcher shall conduct fundamental and applied research into the structure/property/durability relationships of aerospace materials such as ceramics, nano-structural materials, and composites for structural, thermal management and energy storage applications through testing and characterization.

Required Qualifications: 

Education: 

  • PhD or Doctoral degree in materials science/engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical and physical sciences, or other related field is preferred.  

Experience:  

The candidate is expected to have hands-on experience in processing and characterization of ceramics, composites, and advanced materials. Experience in additive manufacturing processes such as direct writing, powder bed processing or other 3-D printing processes is favorable. 

The candidate is also expected to: 
  • be a team player; 
  • have willingness to learn and collaborate with other scientists; 
  • have strong verbal and written communication skills; and 
  • experience with documenting studies through presentations or written peer-reviewed publications.
