Sustainability Scientist/Engineer (5933)

We are currently seeking a Sustainability Scientist/Engineer for our Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice in Maynard, MA. In this role you will work as part of a team to provide technical support on existing projects and business development efforts in the biological and ecological sciences. Areas of focus may involve critical review and comparison of life cycle assessments (LCAs) for a range of products and processes, carbon footprint analysis, including carbon storage potential of natural and nature-based projects, quantification of ecosystem services and biodiversity footprints, risk assessments, and causal analyses.

You will be responsible for: 
  • Helping clients develop and evaluate sustainability progress
  • Performing and/or reviewing LCAs, including reviews of data inputs and model assumptions
  • Synthesizing technical information and applying creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations
  • Developing and maintaining professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications, and participation in technical conferences and activities of professional societies
  • Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate

You will have the following skills and qualifications: 
  • Ph.D. in Ecology, Environmental Science, Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering, Statistics, or other related field
  • Familiarity with SimaPro, GaBi, or other life cycle assessment modelling and reporting software
  • Experience performing and evaluating life cycle assessments
  • Familiarity with relevant ISO standards, including ISO 14067 Carbon footprint of products and other standards in the ISO 14000 series
  • Experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity 
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications
  • Strong commitment to personal development
