R&D Lab Associate

Job Title: R&D Lab Associate 
Location: Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

BioAesthetics is looking for a full-time R&D Lab Associate. Preferred background includes biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science/engineering, or similar. The position will be a combination of desk work and hands-on lab work including the handling and processing of biologic tissue from many sources (murine, porcine, non-human primate, human, etc.). Experience in IHC, aseptic technique, cell culture, and grant writing, is desirable; and knowledge of biologically-derived ECM/polymers/ biocompatible materials and drug delivery is highly desired. In addition, the R&D Lab Associate will have the freedom to explore new techniques for new and existing projects.

Major Responsibilities
Plan and conduct research experiments to develop BioAesthetics’ advanced acellular biologic grafts
• Perform tissue processing techniques including tissue cleaning, decellularization, lyophilization and analyses to confirm removal of genetic material.
• Maintain bacterial and mammalian cell culture in an aseptic manner.
• Perform in vitro assays to support tissue engineering goals.
• Assist with and perform basic histology procedures (trimming, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and cover slipping).
• Implement and contribute to the design of experimental procedures to improve assays or research outcomes, with guidance.
• Analyze technical or scientific data, with some degree of supervision.
• Make technical or scientific observations in process and consult with manager or other R&D team members.
• Generate and present data in team meetings.
• Use reagents and materials in a responsible manner.
• Record and manage use of materials and reagents needed to carry out experiments.
• Support of routine lab activities: receive supply orders, restock lab materials, autoclave tools, maintain incubators, etc. according to SOPs.
• Follow proper procedures regarding laboratory safety, use of personal protective equipment, and handling/disposal of biohazard materials, including human, animal or bacterial cells and tissues.
• Other duties, as assigned.

Must have >2 years hands-on experience.

Preferred Requirements:
• Master’s or PhD degree in life science, engineering, or biomedical science
• Histological processing and immunohistology/fluorescent staining experience
• Experience with DNA isolation and quantification from intact tissues
• Experience with ELISA
• Experience in brightfield and fluorescence imaging/image analysis
• Experience in cell cytotoxicity/proliferation assays
• Experience in bacteria work
• Experience writing and integrating code in platforms such as Matlab/R
