Junior Marine Engineer

Bay Engineering is looking for motivated engineers to join our staff!

Mechanical, electrical and civil engineers are all encouraged to apply.

Engineers awarded positions in our firm will work directly under the supervision of a professionally licensed engineer in the state of Wisconsin. Bay Engineering has 4 professionally licensed engineers on staff.

This is an excellent opportunity for one to be exposed to various engineering disciplines in marine design while obtaining work experience required to obtain a P.E. license!

Primary responsibilities include:

1. Prepare contract, preliminary, and working level drawings and calculations for various naval and commercial vessels.
2. Provide technical assistance and oversight to drafting technicians in development of detail drawings.
3. Perform checking of drawings and bills of material for accuracy, thoroughness, applicability, and conformance to specifications and regulatory requirements.
4. Provide estimating data input for bidding purposes and estimate engineering hours for preparation of proposals.
5. Coordinate with other departments as needed to ensure accuracy of the overall design product.
6.Perform ship checks as needed to confirm as built vessel arrangements as well as oversight of design install.

Qualification requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Engineering Degree (electrical, mechanical or civil engineering)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and EXCEL.
  • Registered Professional Engineer a plus.

Time commitment:

  • 40 hours per week minimum
  • Work time over 40 hours per week is paid at time and a half
  • Core office hours are from 9 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday, including a 1 hour lunch break. Outside of core hours, employees may utilize a schedule that is flexible to their needs. In the summer (between Memorial and Labor Day) BEI follows a reduced core hour schedule on Fridays where employees may conclude their work-week at noon. This allows everyone more time to enjoy beautiful Door County, where there is a lot one can do in the summer.  
  • BEI has eight (8) paid holidays: Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving & day after Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Labor Day and Memorial Day. There is also one (1) floating holiday, which is a paid day off to be used at the employees discretion. We also provide employees with 24 hours of paid personal/sick leave each calendar year (this does not accumulate from year to year). 
  • In addition to personal leave and the floating holiday, you would be eligible for 2 week’s paid vacation per year, starting your first year of employment. An additional week of annual vacation is obtained after 5 years of employment.
