Maintenance Technician

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Responsible for the efficient flow of product through the assigned area and the repair and maintenance of all machinery in the assigned area. 
  • Train seasonal employees in the proper, safe, and efficient operation of the machinery to which they are assigned
  • Must have knowledge of machine shop operations, such as operating a drill press, band saw, grinders, brake press, lathe, etc.
  • Must possess various degrees of welding aptitude concerning Arc, MIG and TIG applications on various materials.
  • Must have knowledge of food processing critical control points.
  • Diagnose power transmission failures and make appropriate repairs.
  • Ability, skill or knowledge required to perform sheet metal fabrication, electrical installation and repair, hydraulic maintenance, power plant maintenance, etc.
  • Some understanding of ammonia refrigeration principles and HVAC systems required.
  • Must possess an appropriate set of tools for industrial maintenance.
  • Must understand chemical applications for sanitation procedures.
  • Must be able to pass Forklift Operation's exam
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Adhere to all Lakeside Foods established policies and procedures.
 
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • A two year certificate from college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successfully complete Mechanic Evaluation Assessment
  • Ability to work closely with other departments, customers, and carriers while forming positive working relationships
  • Personal computer, Word, Excel, TMS, WLOG and SAP knowledge and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
 
   Language Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
 
   Reasoning Ability:  
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Standing – must be able to stand entire shift
  • Walking - Walks periodically to get parts and materials
  • Sitting – Limited sitting required
  • Lifting – Able to regularly lift up to 25 pounds; lift up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis during a repair
  • Carrying – Must be able to carry up to 75 lbs. for 100 ft.
  • Pulling – Able to pull items of 200 lbs. occasionally
  • Climbing – Must occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in adverse conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be excessive during certain maintenance activities.
  • The noise level is high when the plant is in vegetable crop production.
 
SAFETY:
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Report all injuries within 24 hours.
  • Report all unsafe conditions and unsafe acts to the supervisor immediately.
  • Take an active role in the daily safety and participate in the plant safety committee.
  • Data to be tracked by supervisors and submitted to management.
  • Set positive example by wearing PPE and following all safety policies.
  • Complete the incident analysis form including the cause and possible preventions within 24 hours.
  • Enforce all safety policies and inform management of all employee safety discrepancies.
  • Safety training of all new seasonal and full time employees
