Public Relations and Events Specialist

Be the public face of Copper Mountain Community College in Joshua Tree, California!

Under the direction of the Superintendent/President, assists in planning and coordination of events with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies; provides administrative support as well as a wide variety of complex and diverse administrative supporting duties.

Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of two years of experience in public relations, event planning or a related field. Experience in an academic setting and website maintenance is desired. 

  • Coordinate and organize a variety of college related events.
  • Coordinate communications between administrators, faculty, staff, and the public or other District or campus officials; confers with administrators, faculty and staff to obtain appropriate information for publications.
  • Assists in event planning and coordination of special functions; provides information to college and District staff about events and other-related campus news.
  • Create, format and prepare materials which may include advertisements, brochures and newsletters.
  • Produce and maintain the District calendar of events.
  • Verify data on marketing and publicity materials for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established procedures.
  • Monitor and archive all college marketing and media materials that are in the public.
  • Coordinate meetings, including on campus and those in the community.
  • Assist in developing press releases, advertising and other presentations used to promote to the District.
  • Operate a computer work station and appropriate software to enter data, maintain records and generate reports; maintain project-related databases; prepare correspondence; prepare reports; create flyers; utilize word processing spreadsheets, databases, and other related software.
  • Write content for the District's webpage; maintains the webpage; assist others with website content; coordinate College's photography needs; transfer images for website applications, prints work and other applications.
  • Work with outside vendors for jobs which include printing bids, preparing files and print specifications to send out jobs, coordinating deadlines, reviewing proofs, scheduling delivery and processing billing.
  • Perform administrative support and clerical duties, including but not limited to budgets, buy-outs and requisitions.
  • Coordinate College's general information line for accuracy and thoroughness of service.
  • Maintain a positive, helpful, constructive attitude, and cooperative working relationship with administration, faculty, staff, consultants and vendors.
