Transportation Engineer - Columbus

Position Description:

As a Transportation Engineer you will be generating and/or reviewing roadway construction plans and planning level documents using design manuals, standard detailed drawings and engineering knowledge. You will gain an understanding of state, county, and local municipal codes and ordinances. You will work both individually and as part of a team to assist in the coordination and preparation of roadway construction documents and details. You will coordinate with team members in other transportation disciplines including structures, hydraulics, and geotechnical on our projects to produce quality transportation plans for our clients. You will report directly to one of our Roadway Project Managers, but we function as one team and often will work collaboratively with other Roadway Engineers on various projects.

Our staff will work in a collaborative office setting utilizing the latest computer software to perform tasks and coordinate with team members. The position requires working with MicroStation, AutoCAD and/or other software to design and produce detailed roadway, maintenance of traffic, and traffic control plans based on current state or municipal standards. Travel may be necessary to attend project meetings, review project sites, or visit clients. Company vehicles may be used if available, but use of a personal vehicle may be necessary at times. Site visits may require walking the project area to document field conditions, take photos of the project area, or investigate potential issues. Internal and external training opportunities will be provided, and participation in professional organizations is encouraged. This position will be based out of the Columbus, Ohio office.

Required Experience or Skill Set:

  • 0-2 years of work experience in roadway engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering
  • E.I. Certificate or the ability to obtain
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft’s Office software
  • Previous experience working in a team environment
  • Ability to follow instruction from team members and managers
  • Ability to work and balance multiple project tasks
  • Availability to work overtime and weekends when necessary
  • MicroStation and/or OpenRoads Designer experience preferred
