District Technician

District Technician
 
The District Technician is a full time 40 hour a week position. We are seeking a self-motivated applicant to help promote, assist, and educate farmers and landowners about best management practices for maintaining clean water, healthy soils, and a sustainable landscape on behalf of the District Board of Supervisors.
The District Technician reports to the Medina Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors with day to day activity under the supervision of the District Manager.
A six month probationary period will occur.
A minimum two year degree in Natural Resources, Environmental, Agricultural Sciences or relevant work experience in conservation related field.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
1.      Become proficient with instrumental field surveying equipment and supporting software including but not limited to GPS, AUTOCAD/ Civil 3D, GIS, ArcMaps.
2.      Strong computer skills to facilitate data management, analysis, report development, and communication.
3.      Familiarity with conservation issues including, planning, soil science, erosion, drainage, agricultural BMP’s, wetlands, streams, and pond construction operations.
4.      Ability to understand and explain a soil test /fertilizer recommendation.
5.      Assist rural and urban land users with conservation planning; recommend appropriate conservation practices including wildlife, forestry, drainage, erosion, and animal waste pollution abatement practices.
6.      Prepare Concept Plan reviews and present at Planning Commission meetings.
7.      Ability to work outside in inclement weather or on rough terrain.
8.      Coordinate the District’s involvement with the implementation of the Medina County Highway Engineer’s Pond Permit.
9.      Take lead on investigation of Ag. Pollution complaints and assists with the implementation of the Ohio Ag. Pollution Standards.
10.  Assist other agencies including but not limited to, FSA, MWCD, USDA, ODA in coordinating landowner contracts to implement conservation practices.
11.  Ability to coordinate, organize, and lead community conservation workshops and outreach programs.
12.  Track activity of the District role for Federal Phase II Stormwater NPDES program.
13.  Maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license, insurance, possess a good driving record, and be able to pass a random drug test.
14.  Other duties as assigned.
 
Salary and Benefits
Salary will commensurate with education, experience, and available funding with a salary range of $16 to $22 per hour. Employee will be part of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System. Employee will have access to the County’s health benefits. Accrual of vacation, sick, compensatory leave and 12 paid holidays.
Hours of Work
Hours of work are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday (1/2 hour for lunch, unpaid)
