Industrial Supply Chain Engineering

The Co-op Program includes up to 3 sessions in either the Co-op or internship employment arrangement. For example, the Co-Op typically works 3 alternating semesters or is coordinated to the university academic schedule.
 
Automated Packaging Systems, Inc. is currently a part of Sealed Air. APS has been an innovator in the bag packaging industry since our inception in 1962. We invented the original pre-opened bags-on-a-roll and named them Autobag®. Today, we offer a full line of bagging, protective packaging and stretch sleeve products to customers around the globe. Our products are utilized in the retail, medical, food, pharmaceutical, automotive, and other industries.
Each session of the program is developed to be a project assignment. The co-op will assist local engineers with long term projects, with ownership of several aspects throughout the assigned timeframe. The participant will complete a formal presentation to higher level leadership about the outcomes at the end of each session.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES

To support engineering, supply chain, and/or continuous improvement in providing continuous improvement support for the Streetsboro Ohio equipment assembly team. Majority of work is on the shop floor in a machine assembly environment.  
  • Assist in Kaizen teams and foster involvement of all associates in lean practices and efforts.
  • Data collection, entry and analysis with improvement plans. May include, but not limited to productivity, total productive maintenance (TPM), downtime, scrap and change over initiatives.
  • Leads 5S efforts, including planning, implementing, leading and supporting plant floor and maintenance activities.
  • Perform cycle time studies to create and validate production standards including standardized work.
  • Assist in process layout and material flow.
  • Identify and implement cost and waste reduction activities.
  • Recommend improvement to the manufacturing process.
  • Assist Performance Improvement Leader in lean activities to support production in achieve daily targets and tasks.
  • Assist in plant layouts and project execution at Machinery Facility and nearby Plastic Facility – some driving travel may be required
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
·       Completed at least two years towards a bachelor's degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
·       3.0 or higher GPA
·       Authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship (student visas accepted)
·       Able to provide own transportation to the internship/co-op location
  • Solid understanding of principals, theories, and concepts in engineering
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a co-op within a manufacturing facility
  • Comfortable using hand tools such as nut drivers, screwdrivers, etc
  • Desire and energy to work in a fast-paced agile environment
  • Hands on experience with the ability to craft simple proof-of-concept models
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams
  • Effective communication skills: 1-1 and written.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative to solve problems
