Mechanical Design Engineer (3-5 years experience)

After successful, rigorous real-world environment testing in Korea and the United States, we have applied our autonomous technology to passenger cars, delivery vans, small electric utility trucks, and passenger carts. Today, with operations in both Korea and the US, we are focused on growing our company in autonomous technologies. 

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work as a mechanical design engineer with manufacturing, fabrication, machining experience in Cincinnati, OH. You will be responsible for designing and supporting the production process of various components that are added to the vehicles to make them autonomous. The components include, but are not limited to control and switch panels, different types of modules, and sensor and actuator mounting brackets.

You should provide a portfolio showing some of your previous design projects with your application.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with various engineering teams and collect their design needs or desired improvements.
  • Perform research and create designs considering heat transfer, life expectancy, structural rigidity, vibration, IP rating, etc.
  • Engage with manufacturing and commercial component vendors.
  • Support the production process.
  • Support R&D effort including: checking the condition of the fabricated products on the vehicles, report their status to the engineering teams, and suggest design improvements if needed.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of three years of professional experience in product/component design (not including co-op and university research projects).
  • Passion for brainstorming and problem solving.
  • Positive attitude and professionalism.
  • Skilled at 3D CAD modeling and solving mechanical challenges.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.

Desired experience

  • Designing and launching new products.
  • Supporting the production team through launch and sustaining.
  • Working with vendors on DFM, design optimization, RFQ and production.
  • Design reviews and methods like DFMEA, tolerance stack up analysis, FEA, and prototyping.
  • Creating test plans and evaluating results.
  • Designing to industry standards or codes.
  • Producing fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Designing for one or more of the following production processes: aluminum or plastic extrusion, sheet metal forming, cnc, casting, welding, injection molding, thermoforming, stamping.

Preferred skills and experience

  • Proficient with Solidworks.
  • Work experience in the automotive industry, computer hardware design, or wire harness design.
  • Understanding of vehicle mechanics.
  • Project management.
  • Working with tools and assembling electro-mechanical devices.
  • Specifying hardware with an understanding of corrosion, dissimilar metals, preload, anti-loosening, and thread selection.
  • Selecting mechanical components such as, gears, belts, shafts, pulleys, etc.
  • Thermal management.
  • Vibration control.
  • 3D printing.
  • Writing design/product specifications.
