Materials Science & Engineering Intern

Job Description 
The Materials Science & Engineering team is looking for individuals who are passionate about Materials Technology and who want to expand their real-world experiences by helping to develop next generation plastics to solve water handling challenges.  This position will involve working closely with engineers on specific project areas to investigate the performance of materials through formulation development and testing. Key focus areas for the role include: 
  • Literature review to gain familiarity/insight into assigned project topic(s) 
  • Hands-on laboratory materials processing, testing, and characterization 
  • Recording of observations, data interpretation, and presentation of results 

Qualifications 
  • Position is open to both undergraduates (completed at least two years in major specified below), and graduate students 
  • Prefer Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry majors 
  • Minimum core GPA of 3.0 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and analytical skills 
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex ideas and creatively solve problems 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship management skills 
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) 
  • Basic knowledge of statistics 
  • Prior experience working in a lab setting utilizing sensitive analytical equipment highly desirable 
  • Physical requirements:  
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time operating laboratory equipment 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
