Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering Intern

YOU
You want to be an important member of a strong team of other makers who take pride in their work and support each other. This paid part-time internship provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable work experience in the field of manufacturing.  Interns will get the opportunity to take their creative ideas from the drawing board and use them to solve real world problems while collaborating with our experienced professionals. We'll treat you as one of us, involving you in discussions, encouraging your technical growth and expanding your abilities. As a Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering Intern you will be responsible for identifying and eliminating areas of waste, developing lean skills through exposure, training and hands on learning and developing project management and presentation skills and participating in Kaizen and 5S events. The ideal candidate for this position will work 16 hours per week at minimum, and full time in the summer. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (% of Time)
Design and develop processes and systems to improve manufacturing and warehousing methods around safety, quality, delivery, productivity and inventory reduction. (25%)

Develop standard work and work instructions for key operations. (25%)

Develop and analyze manufacturing data to measure, improve and identify target areas for improvement. (15%)

Perform time observation studies. (15%)

Assist in effectively communicating and implementing the changes and present results to management at the end of the internship. (10%)

Calculate inventory levels, storage requirements and Kanban quantities. (10%)

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
If you can do everything listed above, you’ve got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering at an accredited institution; rising juniors, rising seniors or graduate students preferred XX – Add desired skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Project experience required, prior internship or work experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AutoCAD, Excel and PowerPoint.

TRAVEL REQUIRED
This job does not require travel.

WORK STATUS & LOCATION
This part-time, non-exempt position is located in Columbus, OH.

RELOCATION
Relocation is not available for this position.
