Associate Engineer

Under supervision and with latitude for independent action and decision, GTS Engineers perform responsible engineering work on a professional level in design or analysis of engineering jobs, projects, or parts thereof. The Associate Engineer may be required to perform activities such as pipeline and piping design, cost estimating, field measurements, preparation and correction of field drawings, ordering material, initiation of permits, preparing operating and maintenance instructions, data analysis, compilation and reporting of technical data and performance of other related duties.
The Associate Engineer (Engineer I) is expected to learn, understand, embrace and follow GTS values; as well as demonstrate willingness to learn new tasks and skills, and take initiative.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collect data and gather information or documents
  • Perform standard computations and analysis
  • Perform basic design tasks
  • Prepare drawings and visual aids
  • Assist on other tasks such as: preparation of material specification/selection, technical reports, plans and procedures, drawings, permit applications, project documentation, and computer aided design (CAD) work
  • Observe construction activities
  • Acquire basic knowledge and develop skills in assigned workstreams
  • Apply prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established GTS, industry and client standards, specifications, and processes to perform assigned tasks
  • Perform routine technical work not requiring previous experience
  • Acquire understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities
  • Exercise limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work
  • Demonstrate sound engineering judgment
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Technical Skills, Degrees or Certifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 0-2 years relevant work experience
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification (Desired)
  • Working knowledge of CAD and GIS software (Desired)
  • Technical communication
  • Proficient use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Utility business understanding (Desired)
  • Valid Driver's license
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Up to 20% travel time expected
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines that requires constant and repetitive motions.
