Welding Engineer I

Frequent use and application of laser and resistance welding technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques. Capable of learning and performing all required competencies in the welding functional area. Basic understanding of mechanical testing and failure modes of welds. Can evaluate and identify critical weld inputs and outputs, & design and analyze an appropriate DOE (full factorial, Minitab). Basic understanding of heat balance, flow, tooling, and equipment development.

A Day in the Life:
•   Write feasibility reports. Write characterization reports. Complete FMEA, MSA, and other basic documents.
•   Trend data, identify anomalous behavior
•   Works with designers to develop appropriate tooling for a feasibility study
•   Write up requests for analytical lab (SEM, EDS, nanohardness, etching, etc)
•   Research and summarize analytical findings and make them relevant to work performed
•   Make basic metallurigcal assessments and measurements (grain structure, stress vs. strain curves, bonding mechanisms)
•   Works under general supervision. Follows established procedures. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy.
•   Primarily internal company contacts. 
•   Representative to leadership on technical content inside of project team
•   Recognized and sought out for technical content inside of respective project team.
•   Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects. 
 
Must Have: Bachelor’s Degree required with 0+ years of experience.

Nice to Have:
•   Provide feedback on Gantt chart expectations
•   Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
•   Evaluate and identify critical laser weld inputs and outputs, & design and analyze an appropriate DOE (full factorial, Minitab) Single process owner (Capable of developing of a process)
•   Can execute tactics to functional strategies with some supervision
