Supply Chain & Operations Internship – Manufacturing Operations
At the hub of Supply Chain and Operations organization, the manufacturing team at Land O Lakes is the critical link to safely producing the highest quality dairy food products for consumers, crop protection and crop input products, and lifestyle and livestock feed for animals. This team has tremendous influence over all the levers that impact the company’s bottom line including employee safety, product quality and safety, labor productivity, line efficiency, and material yield. Our manufacturing team operates 85 facilities nationwide. 

Internships are available in our manufacturing facilities throughout the United States. Locations are typically discussed during the interview process. We offer our interns a competitive hourly wage, paid relocation, and a summer housing stipend.

Purina Animal Nutrition & Dairy Foods Manufacturing Operations Internships
As a Manufacturing Operations intern, you will get broad exposure to our Supply Chain organization and leadership team. Our interns gain invaluable job experience, career development and leadership opportunities. You will receive both technical and leadership training to enhance your skill set. Interns work with cross-functional teams to drive performance improvements and receive a great introduction to our collaborative, fun and engaging culture.

Manufacturing Operations Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with a manufacturing team of production, quality, maintenance supervisors and managers in a high-paced manufacturing environment. You will be placed in either a Purina Animal Nutrition facility or within a Dairy Foods facility. You will also work closely with production team members on the production floor. Interns can expect to focus their time on initiatives to improve safety, quality, productivity, asset reliability and much more.

Interns will identify, work on, and present a project that will benefit you as well as the plant facility and our organization. Here are a few examples of previous projects that interns have chosen:
  • Analyze and correct root cause of production downtime
  • Improve operational efficiency on a production line
  • Identify and create recommendations to minimize waste on a production line

 General Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain, operations, food science, animal science, agriculture, or related fields of study
  • Minimum 3.0 G.P.A.
  • Demonstrated leadership in school/academic/industry related clubs
  • Ability to relocate during May – August 2022 timeframe
  • Previous experience within the general production and plant manufacturing environment is preferred but not required

Physical Qualifications
  • Walking, standing, and engaging in movement throughout the day,
  • Occasionally to frequently be required to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Due to a large variety of job duties (both routine and non-routine), certain duties also may involve, a variety of physical activities which include
  • bending, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, and pulling
  • raising arms above shoulders and head
  • working in enclosed areas
  • climbing stairs or ladders
  • The noise level in the work environment can vary but noise is usually low to moderate   
  • Depending on where you are working on in the plant, you may be required to wear personal protective equipment which includes:
  • safety glasses, safety gloves, hearing protection, a respirator or dust mask, protective footwear, protective clothing or uniforms.
  • Work may be performed in cold and/or hot temperatures and the environment can be dusty
  • Work may need to be performed during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends. At times, the ability to work overtime also may be required
