PURPOSE OF JOB
Performs custodial services at assigned locations; delivers furniture, equipment and materials.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Performs exterior custodial and landscaping responsibilities. Removes debris from grounds utilizing various equipment. Performs seasonal exterior custodial duties such as leaf removal, snow removal and salt spreading, spring and fall clean-ups. Performs lawn maintenance such as applying chemicals to kill weeds, bagworms, etc; plants flowers and bulbs.
  2. Operates Library vehicles of varying sizes, up to a 26 foot long box truck, for daily routine work, surplus moves, and events. Follows through with all scheduled vehicle maintenance, including oil changes and cleaning; performs weekly visual inspections. Responsible for troubleshooting and making preventative maintenance recommendations regarding vehicles.
  3. Performs internal custodial duties such as emergency clean ups, carpet snag removal, walk off mat replacement as needed, air freshener replacement, etc.
  4. Performs custodial and landscaping audits; inspects irrigation systems; reports status and performance of a variety of custodial contractors; recommends repairs or replacement of equipment.
  5. Coordinates surplus activities and maintains a clean and organized warehouse. Includes: tear down and assemble furniture as necessary; communicating details to internal customers such as time of delivery or removal and location; completing and submitting the appropriate documentation for each transfer; providing access to staff and contractors, inventory of custodial equipment and supplies.
  6. Maintains and inventories custodial equipment such as winterization; delivery and pick-up of all equipment in need of repair from vendors; inventory of all pieces of equipment, including asset and serial numbers; ensures fuel for all equipment is fresh to prevent break downs.
  7. Interacts with a variety of custodial contractors. Gives contractors access to branches for quarterly and emergency duties; communicates with contractor crews regarding special requests or to point out any problems; inspects projects after contractors have left to ensure their work area was cleaned properly before branch opens; contacts snow removal contractors if an assigned location was not properly cleared.
  8. Reports any problems, including but not limited to: abandoned vehicles, staff concerns, custodial or maintenance concerns found.
  9. Responds to all (including hazardous) interior and exterior emergency clean-ups quickly.
  10. Prepares branch for board meetings/special events including, but not limited to, setting up tables, chairs, podium, and microphone, conducting and interior and exterior audit. Sets room(s) back to its original configuration for public use after meetings/events.
  11. Completes assigned on line training.
  12. Performs additional duties as assigned including serving on task forces, committees, or assists other departments as needed with their work load. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  1. High school diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Three to five years’ of full time custodial experience. 
  3. Ability to operate custodial mechanical equipment.
  4. Demonstrated skill in operating a large motor vehicle, 26 foot box truck (road test may be required).
  5. Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job related equipment and systems.
  6. Valid driver license which meets the minimum requirements of CML’s vehicle insurance policy and access to a personal vehicle to promptly report to varied work locations as assigned.

SCHEDULE
Combination of mornings, afternoons, evenings & weekends, alternating Friday/Saturday. Sundays as assigned.
