Product Development Engineer

POSITION DESCRIPTION


Saint-Gobain is looking for a Product Development Engineer for our Boron Nitride business. The Product Development Engineer provides support to the Technical Manager for the development of new and/or modification of existing products, processes, and testing techniques to meet defined business needs. The incumbent works independently on assigned development and other technical projects.

Projects will focus on process, product, and applications development for new and improved products to meet market and customer needs or to develop new processes for more economical or sustainable production of existing products.

The position reports to the Boron Nitride Technical Manager and is based out of the Amherst, NY manufacturing site.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, other Engineering field -- or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Research & Development (R&D) or Engineering experience in a manufacturing setting is required. 
  • 1+ year of experience working in the Electronics, Automotive, Metallurgy, Semiconductor or Aerospace industry is preferred.
  • Must be able to act independently, with good project & time management skills. Must be creative and innovative with a problem-solving mentality. Hands-on skills are a requirement.
  • The incumbent must possess strong organizational skills, as well as be thorough, detail-oriented and be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills (verbal and written) are required as this position will interact closely with the entire cross section of the Business Unit as well as customers and vendors.
  • Must have computer proficiency (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Travel, as needed – up to 15% for customer site visits, internal site visits, trade shows, etc. International travel is infrequent, but may be required.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS


This position will focus on the following areas:
  • Conducts hands-on laboratory and manufacturing experiments as well as literature research to develop new and/or modify existing products and develops new and/or modify existing testing procedures. Responsible to ensure the use of scientifically sound research methods. 
  • Designs and coordinates internal and external experiments pertinent to the development of new products and processes.
  • In conjunction with the Technical Manager, ensures the all projects are quantifiably targeted towards business and customer requirements.
  • Evaluates feasibility of producing new products on production scale and assures project transition from lab to pilot to production scale.
  • Provides technical support and services for new and existing products.
  • Documents & analyzes data to make informed decisions. Presentation of data in oral and written reports to articulate and convey project developments to all appropriate management levels is required
