Senior Engineer/Engineer Intern

The Metropolitan Sewer District is seeking to hire a Senior Engineer or Engineer Intern to perform professional engineering work involving the planning, design, investigation and construction of engineering projects including, piping systems, utility plants, buildings, treatment processes and controls, and other projects, varying with assigned area of responsibility; and to provide complex professional assistance to an assigned Engineering Supervisor or other management personnel.
The Senior Engineer is responsible for the management of Capital Improvement projects including sewer, pump station and Wastewater Treatment Plant construction and improvements.

Other assigned duties may include:

  • Work with the operating division on planning, and design projects to ensure that the division has input on projects
  • Work with consultants on studies managed by Engineering to ensure goals of study are met
  • Develop qualification requests for projects to maintain the functionality and regulatory needs of MSD's conveyance and treatment assets.
  • Work with design team partners on projects to assure high quality plans are developed to meet needs of MSD
  • Administer consultant contracts to ensure projects stay on schedule and within engineering planning and design budgets
  • Manage the project during construction phase with respect to the scope of services, schedule, and budget.
  • As assigned, manage active construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, quality standards and regulations; coordinate projects with other agencies and City departments, outside firms and consultants.
  • Investigating complaints and damage claims against MSD for a variety of damages and coordinating corrective action.
  • Direct or assist in directing the activities of professional, supervisory, technical and clerical staff, including daily assignment of duties for Sewer Construction Inspectors and Public Works Inspector IIs.
  • Making recommendations for changes and improvements as needed prior to and during construction.
  • Reviewing and approving change orders and variances in specifications for materials and construction methods.
  • Reviewing technical calculations, bill of materials, special provisions, cost estimates, etc.
  • As assigned, manage active construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, quality standards and regulations
  • Participating in and conducting pre-bid meetings, bid analysis and pre-construction conferences prior to start of project; review contract documents prior to bid.
  • Making field-engineering decisions, monitoring construction progress and coordinating construction activities with the proper MSD personnel.
  • Provide support to Supervising, Principal and Superintendent on technical, administrative and managerial issues
