NDI Engineer

The NDI Engineer supports the inspection processes associated with non-destructive testing of composite tooling and production parts. This includes basic research and development, process optimization, design and testing duties in an AS9100 Certified facility. This role performs and maintains the standard processes for calibrations, testing, and evaluations for acceptance or rejection determinations according to written instructions and record results. NDI Engineers may set up and calibrate equipment and to interpret and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards, and specifications. They are thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the method of NDT being used and should exercise assigned responsibility for on-the-job training and guidance of Level I and II NDI Technicians.
The following essential job functions are performed as a NDI Engineer:
  • Conduct tests and reports to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using NDT methods of inspection using A-scan, B-scan and C-scan Methods.
  • Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations.
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
  • Work closely with management to identify and remove obstacles, and report on project progress.
  • Actively participate in client safety initiatives, incident investigations, etc.
  • Assists with creating and managing new production processes/procedures to better aid in the completion of inspection processes and/or resolve any problems that may have occurred during the production of the tool.
  • Aides with recording test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data and recommendations for changes in product or test method
  • Must be able to comply with Safety, 5S, AS9100 and Nadcap Standards and Practices
  • Develops detailed inspection plans, techniques or procedures based upon customer process specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts.
  • Files, retrieves and maintains engineering drawings, records, revisions and updates, as needed.
  • Drafts detail drawings or sketches to convey technical information.
  • Maintains awareness of the project schedule for each project as it moves through the value stream in order to meet key project deadlines.
  • May instruct and supervise others.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • A bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, engineering technology, mechanical engineering, composite/material science, industrial design technology, applied science, or a similar field is required.
  • A combination of extensive work experience (10+ Years) and other education may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree. Minimum requirement for all positions is a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office products and SAP; some experience with Catia and Unigraphics is desirable.
  • Must be familiar with a variety of the fields' concepts, practices and procedures; must be able to rely on extensive experience, problem-solving skills and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Willingness to obtain certification to Level 2 per NAS410
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform assigned NDT tasks and interpret results of inspections.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain a government issued security clearance.
