Job Description:
Team activities include design, development, fabrication of prototypes and production systems, test, troubleshooting, maintenance, and deployment of complex electronic and mechanical systems relating to GPS/GNSS for internal use as well as external sponsor deliverables.

Responsibilities


  • Hardware design and build in support of mechanical and systems engineering functions. This includes installation up to 75 pounds.
  • Contribute to all phases of the product life-cycle, including requirements development, design, integration, test, documentation, training, revision/update, and maintenance.
  • Equipment Test including developing the testing strategy and testing the design and operational concept. Also, data collection and documentation to enable rigorous performance analysis.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in mechanical design and developing complex electromechanical systems.
  • Experience in mechanical prototype design, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Experience with CAD programs, in both 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
  • Experience in developing production drawings for fabrication.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including machining and CAD/CAM, welding, and sheet metal work.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with properties of common technical materials, such as metals, plastics, composites.
  • Familiarity with principles of Design for Manufacture, Assembly, and Maintenance.
  • Understanding of basic electrical practice and principles, including wiring and connectors for power, data, and signals.
  • Experience with ASME standards.
Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. The position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving skills and excellent judgment. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in engineering, with a concentration in mechanical design.
  • Practical experience in product design, development, and testing: 6 months or more for co-op positions; 1 year or more for commercial/research products or equipment.
  • Experience with computer numerical control (CNC) machining.
  • Experience with AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Experience with AutoDesk Vault.
  • Experience with structural and/or finite-element analysis.
  • Experience with Linux terminal-based environments including bash.
  • Experience using Python/SciPy for data analysis and visualization.
  • One or more years of experience in applied research or GPS.
  • Experience in machine shop safety.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0.
